After being substituted off during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Egypt manager Rui Vitoria said that it is too soon to tell if Mohamed Salah’s injury will be a major concern.
The forward for Liverpool was substituted out of Egypt’s 2-2 tie with Ghana just before halftime after he went down and received treatment on the field.
Salah dropped down to the ground during an Egypt counterattack, gesturing to the bench that he couldn’t continue, after bursting forward.
After all that, without their star player, Egypt could only manage a draw. Because a victory was crucial to their chances of advancing to the next round.
The Pharaohs’ match against Cape Verde on Monday night will serve as the last group stage match. However, Salah’s participation is still uncertain.
He hobbled off the field, his left thigh held in a tight grip. Upon entering the tunnel, he was greeted by the enthusiastic cheers of several Ghanaian fans.
Was Salah’s Injury Mentioned by the Egypt Boss?
When asked about Salah’s injury after the game, Vitoria reportedly told the Daily Express that it was not likely to be deemed “dangerous.” However, he did admit that the complete extent of the problem remained unclear to him.
“I really hope it’s not [a major issue],” Vitoria expressed.
We haven’t identified the issue yet. It was an issue in the first half; I hope it’s not a major one. We had a tough time with the timing because we were limited to two replacements in the second half.
But at this point, I am unsure. Things are still in their early stages. Assuming Salah makes a full recovery, I don’t see it as dangerous.
Ghana took the lead just before halftime thanks to a goal from Mohammed Kudus, and Egypt promptly surrendered after Salah’s departure.
Two goals were added to the West Ham forward’s total in the second half. However, the Egyptians Mostafa Mohamed and Omar Marmoush ensured that the plunder was divided after the battle.
