Sancho hails ‘special’ connection with BVB after scoring in PSV triumph

Jadon Sancho hailed his “special” connection to Borussia Dortmund after scoring during their 3-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven in the last-16 of the Champions League.

Sancho fired home a low strike in the third minute before Marco Reus made sure late on that Dortmund progressed into the quarter-finals for the first time in three years.

After a turbulent season with Manchester United, the 23-year-old rejoined the German club in January and re-opened his league account at the weekend.

And Sancho admits he has an affinity for BVB and reveals he loved the feeling of scoring at Signal Iduna Park again.

He told TNT Sports: “I’ve always had a special place in Borussia Dortmund, this is where I made my name.

“I’ve got to be grateful to my teammates for believing in me and I’m just happy that we got the win today.

“Yeah, it was a relief [to score].

“All players want to have a good start to the game and there’s no better feeling than that.

“I’m just grateful that I could get the goal for the team.”

Dortmund were fortunate to escape the second half without conceding but they got the job done to secure a spot in the last eight.

Sancho went on to hail the home crowd, who he said played a massive part in securing the win.

He added: “Coming into the game, we knew it was going to be tough but we always had the advantage because we were in front of our home fans.

“From the first whistle to the last, we stuck at our game plan and I’m just happy we got the win.”

Despite the apparent feel-good factor, Sancho’s evening ended in the 75th minute when he limped off the pitch holding his hamstring.

But the England international has eased fears over a potential spell on the sidelines.

He said: “Yeah, last time I played a home game I felt something and I just didn’t want to risk it.

“We’re going to check and hopefully it is nothing.

“It is in the hamstring area, but hopefully it is okay.”
