TalkSPORT presenter Simon Jordan has insisted that Manchester United star Marcus Rashford is “overrated” like one of his England teammates and is not a “world-class player.”
Marcus Rashford has struggled with consistency this season, with the Manchester United forward only scoring seven times in 27 Premier League appearances so far.
The 26-year-old England international was in a rich vein of form in the previous campaign, with Rashford scoring an impressive 17 times in the league.
However, Rashford has been unable to replicate his scintillating form from last season in the current campaign, despite Erik ten Hag keeping faith in him.
The Three Lions star’s behaviour off the pitch has also raised eyebrows, including being pictured at a Belfast nightclub before he reported ill for training.
Erik ten Hag insisted that he would deal with Rashford’s off-field actions privately, but the United forward has faced mounting criticism over his behaviour.
Jordan on Man Utd star Rashford for England
Marcus Rashford was away on international duty with England in the March break, with the Manchester United star featuring in one match for the Three Lions.
The United player came off the bench in the second half for a brief cameo appearance in the 1-0 friendly defeat to Brazil at Wembley last weekend.
However, Rashford was an unused substitute for England in the 2-2 friendly draw against Belgium at Wembley on Tuesday.
Rashford is likely to be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024, but it remains to be seen if the United star can secure his place in the starting XI.
Speaking in his column for The Daily Mail, Simon Jordan was far from impressed with what he saw from Rashford during the March international break.
“He came off the bench for 15 minutes against Brazil and didn’t get on against Belgium,” he wrote.
“He’s not been a central figure for some time and his career appears to be going backwards.
“He’s become an impact substitute, someone who can come on for the last 20 minutes when the game is stretched. He might not like it but that’s where he is at the moment.”
Jordan added: “I do, however, find a lot of what has been said about Rashford unfair.
“He’s not a world-class player so I always felt that judging him by those standards put him in a position where he’s always going to fall short.
“What he needs to do is apply himself, look like he’s interested, engaged and motivated again otherwise he may never reach the levels we saw from him at the beginning of his career.
“For whatever reason, whether it’s the life that he leads or the way he views the world, the pressure of playing for United or having too much money and too many distractions, I don’t see a player who has evolved.”
Jordan talks PSG transfer interest in Rashford
Jordan labelled Rashford as “overrated” alongside Manchester City star Jack Grealish, despite claiming the latter has “evolved as a player” under Pep Guardiola.
Rashford has reportedly emerged as a surprise target for Paris Saint-Germain, with the Ligue 1 club on the hunt for a player to replace French superstar Kylian Mbappe.
Jordan has boldly suggested that it is “perhaps time” for Rashford to “move on” from Old Trafford and believes that he has “run his course” at United.
“For a man who protests to love Manchester United so much it’s a difficult situation but I think it’s perhaps time for him to move on,” he wrote for the newspaper.
“He’s run his course at Old Trafford and could flourish again at a new club.
“There has been endless links to Paris Saint-Germain which could be an option if it’s a move he’d be interested in.
“He won’t go short of a bob or two in France, he’ll win league titles, play in the Champions League and be away from the goldfish bowl of United and the British media. That has its benefits.
“But I don’t see him moving to a top-six rival which speaks volumes about where both he and United currently are, so he’s limited to potential interest from overseas.”
